In 2008, Drake augmented the manufacturing capacity with the addition of a 3600 watt Mitsubishi Laser, a 175 ton Accurpress Brake, and a bridge gantry crane. Production was immediately improved with quicker response times for customer orders and by decreasing the building time for new loaders. A waterjet cutter is also still in operation for cutting thick stainless steel plates. The fabrication of sheet metal was also moved to a nearby 5000 square foot building to allow expansions in the machine shop and welding department.
Tracy Wiseman is the team leader and programmer at Drake West and has nine years of service at Drake. Jeff Earhart is the assistant programmer and is an avid bowler that can be found in Vegas every spring for tournaments. Charles Johnson is the press brake operator with nine years of service at Drake and frequently repairs used cars in his spare time. Boyd Wiseman also works on used cars and occasionally rides a motorcyle in his spare time. |

Maximizing Loader Speed Setup
With today’s economy, the public is demanding more & more hot dogs as a low cost source of food. Our customers face a unique challenge of trying to meet that demand. Here are a few tips to check to ensure your loader is running at peak efficiency.
1. Collator:
- Make sure there is no broken product entering into the Collator from the downstream equipment such as peelers, product conveyors transporting product to the loader.
- Make sure the product entering into the Collator is being spread across the whole width of the Collator by the Cross-feed Plow.
- Adjustments to the Stirrer Paddle positions will help increase the fill rate coming out of the Collator.
- Adjust the product level photo eye to allow enough product into the Collator to maintain fill rate.
2. Intermediate Conveyor:
- Adjust the rear of the conveyor so the product coming out of the Collator is centered between the Intermediate Chains.
- Adjust the Alignment chains to position the end of the product 1/8” away from the center guide on both lanes.
3. Loading Head:
Rod Adjustments:
- Adjust the top Rod Assembly to allow the product to fall forward to the back of the next flight.
- Adjust the outside guides on the Lower S-rod Assembly to allow the product to travel past without touching the guide.
- Adjust the Lower S-rod Assembly based on the diameter of the product being run. The rod position should be set to allow the product to move freely through the star wheels.
Chain Modules:
- Adjust the outside guides on the module so it lines up with the inside edge of the Hinge Gate Frames.
Timing:
- Rack Home Position: Jog the loader and mark the farthest travel backwards & forwards. Jog the loader until the rack moves backwards to the mid-position. Set the “Rack Home” Proximity Switch so it is just coming ON.
- Position Stop Position: Jog the loader until the Rack has traveled all of the way forward. Set the “Position Stop” Proximity Switch so it is just coming ON.
- Strip Position: Jog the loader until the bottom of the Pusher Chains begin to pause, which should be about 5/8” back from the “Position Stop” position. Set the Strip Proximity to ON at that position.
- Layer Count Position: The “Layer Count” Proximity needs to be set to come after the “Position Stop” Proximity goes OFF.
